Prof. dr. Mian N. Riaz
Dr. Mian N. Riaz is the Associate Department Head and IFANCA Professor in Food Diversity in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Texas A&M University, USA. He joined Texas A&M University 31 years ago after completing his Ph.D. in Food Science. Dr. Riaz has published seven books, with two focusing on Halal Food Production. His first book, "Halal Food Production," is widely used in universities for Food Science and Nutrition majors and has been translated into Chinese, Persian, and Korean. His second book, "Handbook of Halal Food Production," was published in 2019. In addition to his books, Dr. Riaz has contributed 28 chapters to various publications, including those addressing issues related to Halal food. At Texas A&M University, he teaches a course on "Religious and Ethnic Food" to Food Science and Nutrition students. His research focuses on processing foods using different technologies. Dr. Riaz has delivered over 725 talks in 65 countries and has published numerous articles on topics such as Halal food processing, the domestic and international Halal market, the Halal certification process for various food industries, Halal ingredients, new Halal trends, and the value of the Halal logo in national and international food-related magazines and journals. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Bernard Lown Alumni Humanitarian Award from the University of Maine in 2016, the International Food Security Award from the Institute of Food Technologists in 2023, and the Dean’s Outstanding Achievement Award for International Impact from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University in 2023.
