Dr. Amel Mohammed Abdallah
Dr. Amel Mohammed Abdallah Mohammed is a veterinary doctor and a graduate of the University of Khartoum, Sudan, holding a Master's degree in Food Microbiology. She is an experienced expert in food safety, quality assurance and standardization policies, with over 20 years of experience in regulatory enforcement, inspection, food laboratory analysis, auditing, and the development of national and international food standards.
She has extensive experience with the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), and has served as a national expert for food safety projects with international organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in addition to the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), contributing to the implementation of key food safety and capacity-building initiatives.
She currently serves as a Technical Advisor and is responsible for strategic planning at SMIIC, where she leads the implementation of strategic projects related to halal infrastructure and standardization frameworks across OIC member states. Previously, she led food inspection units, supervised the establishment of national laboratories for genetically modified organism (GMO) analysis, and managed regional antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance projects under FAO programs.
Her areas of expertise include Quality and Food Safety Management Systems (ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, HACCP, ISO 17020, ISO 17025); Halal Food Standardization and Policy Development; Food Laboratory Diagnostics, Molecular Biology and PCR-based Pathogen Detection; the development of national and regional regulatory frameworks and technical coordination; and international negotiations and committee representation (Codex Alimentarius, SMIIC, AMR Working Groups). She has received advanced training from prestigious international institutions across the United Kingdom, Egypt, Malaysia, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates, and possesses strong multilingual communication skills in Arabic and English.
