Adel Sabir
Dr. Sabir holds a PhD in Bio Sciences (Biotechnology) from University of Birmingham (UK), MSc in Agriculture from California State University-Fresno (USA) and BSC in Agriculture, University of Baghdad (Iraq). Dr Sabir started his career working as a scientist in R&D for the Scientific Research Council in Iraq until 1986, when he moved to the UK to pursue his PhD studies. He worked within Bio-Tech, Halal Industry, Food supplies for Charities & Trade for 35 years. Dr Sabir is a Halal Industry Scientist / Expert. His Professional / Scientific areas of work include; Management, Global Halal Supply Chain, Animal Slaughter, Food Technology, Biotechnology and Halal standards, auditing and certification. He manages the Adahi (Qurbani) supply chain for a number of charities in Australia, UK, Singapore, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and Turkey for charitable distribution to the poor and needy worldwide. He also project manages the canning of Hajj meat (donated by the Islamic Development Bank Haddi and Adahi projects, Saudi Arabia) for distribution in poor countries. Dr Sabir advises the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, IIFA, (Saudi Arabia) on Halal industry issues such as Islamic Slaughter of Animals using modern technology, Istihalah and Istihlak, gelatine and the use of blood and its derivatives in food and feed. As a scientist, he has accompanied an eminent IIFA team of Muslim scholars during their visit to Brazil to advise on the impact of modern technology in slaughterhouses. He is a committee member of the Halal Food Project at the British Standard Institute (BSI) and a UK delegate to the European Committee for Standardization (CEN/TC 425 - Project Committee - Halal Food). Dr Sabir’s most recent project aims to develop Halal standards and systems that can advance the commercial development of the Halal industry in China, The project also aims to initiate China-Europe Halal Trade Platform. Dr Sabir has been listed in the ISLAMICA 500 (ISLAMICA500.COM).
