Suleiman Bulbulia
Suleiman Bulbulia is a graduate of the University of the West Indies in Management Studies, founder and Director of Barbados Halal Experience, the first of its kind halal tourism service provider in Barbados and the Caribbean. He is also Muslim Chaplain at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies; Commissioner on the Barbados Constitutional Reform Commission; and Chairman of the National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Commission. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2010. Mr. Bulbulia represents the interests of the Islamic faith and Muslims to the Government of Barbados, inter-faith activities, national, regional, and international organizations. In this capacity and as a member of several regional and international bodies, he has represented Barbados at conferences and meetings around the world. On November 30, 2021, the 55th anniversary of Barbados’ Independence, and the day Barbados transitioned to a Republic, Mr. Bulbulia was awarded a National Honor, the ‘Silver Trident of Excellence’, for “his strong commitment to seeing Barbados become a place of inclusivity and mutual respect, and his contribution to bridging societal divides in underprivileged communities in Barbados and the region.” He has sat on several Boards as a Government appointee and currently is a member on the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee and the Enslaved Burial Ground at Newton Development Committee. Mr. Bulbulia is a guest lecturer on faith, diverse cultures and halal tourism at the University of the West Indies, the Regional Police Training Centre, and tourism agencies.
